Gare de Vaise

Hi again! Things have started to work out here really well now that the initial shock is gone and every day I miss Finland less and less. Today I got the pics my roommate has taken here so I thought I'd come and share them with you guys.

The first day. We got some food from the nearby store and ate it in a park. It was (well it still is) very warm.

Our first time out in Lyon on Thursday. That was fun!

Yup some pretty normal behaviour at our residence.

On Friday we had school but we had a few hours' break in the middle of the day so we went to get some drinks. Our tutor fellows suggested that we try the local drink called pastisse. It was quite good actually!

Friday night (yesterday) was so awesome! We had our school's international students' welcome dinner that turned out to be quite a successful night out.

Yesterday was so much fun! I got to talk to so many different people from so many different countries. Besides English, I got to speak French, Swedish and Spanish as well. It was so fun that I came home today around 2 p.m. still rather tipsy :D

Today we went to Part Dieu shopping center that consists of over 260 stores. That was insane. We ate some pretty bad pizza as well :D More about that tomorrow!

Demain: gueule de bois?

I didn't find any time to post yesterday. It's still really warm, +30'c, and the sun is shining. No complaints weather-wise!

We went to get some drinks to cool us off from Starbucks. Oh Starbucks, how have I missed you! Mine is frappuccino au chocolat, délicieux!


I've taken some random pics around the city. This is from our window.

We went out last night (same plan tonight) and I bought some cidre. Cost me 0,95€ per 0.75 liters.

We were supposed to be orienteering around town today afternoon but we were really tired and went home instead :D This view is over the Vieux Lyon (old Lyon).


I also took some pics in my room out of boredom. I haven't cleaned it up yet. Don't know if I ever will.


I got a desk yesterday, woohoo. Or should I say more closet space...

I was so happy at the store the other day because they have my favorite Coke ever, Light Lime! It's so good I've missed it since I last visited London, which was 2 years ago.

Now I better get ready to go out again. We have a welcome dinner tonight followed by a night out in the town.

Ne marche pas!

Our second day in Lyon has been really warm and sunny. I didn't see any clouds the whole day! The plan of the day was to go look around and find our way around in the city and to find our school. We also needed to get pillows and sheets etc.

After eating in a nearby park we took the subway to Hôtel de Ville, which is close to our school.

Well turns out we didn't know which way was which so we strolled around a couple of kms not finding anything but enjoying the great views!

This sign shows the temperature, +30'c! After this we walked like for an hour looking for the school and after taking the detour we realized that the school was located almost just behind this sign :D

The view over the river Rhône was spectacular.





After a while we found the school and came back to Hôtel de Ville. I was talking to some homeless dude here.. Well, anything goes when you're trying to improve your French, I guess :D


Then we walked to Bellecour where we visited a tourist info. We asked where to get pillows and such :D




I took some pretty questionable pics on the subway. I really love commuting with the subway, it's so fast even if you have to change trains. To get to school we first have to take a bus from our apartment to the nearest tube station (less than 1 km away, it's walkable but I don't know if we have time in the mornings) and then take one train and change into another one. Sounds confusing but it's really fast and easy and you can use the same ticket for one hour in both buses and trains. One ticket costs 1,60€ quite cheap in my opinion compared to bus fares in Finland. When we go to school we get the montly subway and bus cards that cost 25€ per month.

After coming home we made tacos.

And after that the most ridiculous thing ever..

Our very own internet café! Haha that was so much fun :D

All the glasses etc in our household are price tagged. If you break you buy!

Our amazing landlord had bought us a case of Heineken. Maybe I really should learn to drink beer...

Now I'm off to bed, I'm really tired and it's the first day of school tomorrow, gotta be stealth. C'est la rentrée! Bonne nuit tout le monde :)

The First look into our apartment

I'm way too tired to write anything that would make any sense so here are the first photos of our apartment.

My room! The bed is reaaaaaaally big and I love the ceiling window. But we don't have any linens... Or pillows!

I like the bar kitchen. I've always wanted one for myself.



So that's it. I hope I'm able to write complete sentences tomorrow. At the moment I feel a bit irritated and our apartment is so new that we don't have all the appliances yet and we still have a gazillion things to do. But I really hope it gets better after the first shock.
